Welcome to ‘Classrooms in the Forest’ – provider of learning and education for the                   Forestry Commission in Whinlatter Forest, North Lakeland.

Situated 1000 ft above sea level Whinlatter offers a fantastic range of exciting curriculum linked and other activities based within England’s only mountain forest. Easily accessible by coach with classroom, visitor centre facilities, awe inspiring scenery, wildlife, wildplay and lots of trees!

What we do Our qualified tutor/rangers provide safe, tailor-made learning and discovery sessions for schools, youth groups, independent families and adults, of all age groups and abilities.

What we believe That the great outdoors is the best place for experiential learning, play, healthy living, self reliance, team building and touching the universe.

Words we use include Conservation, Environment, History, Literacy, Storytelling, Anglo Saxons, Geography, Climate change, Team Building, Citizenship, Drama, Art, Forest School, Ospreys, Orienteering, Vikings, Red Squirrels.
